On December 13th Ms. Chen's Computer Science classes were invited to participate in the regional finals at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Prior to the finals the Computer Science students completed month long challenges beginning in October with a boot camp that all of Ms. Chen's students participated in and resulted in being invited to the finals. Steven Hardy and Giovanni Vera represented Winslow Middle School at the regional finals and Ms. Chen's 8th grade students were invited to cheer on their classmates. The finals consisted of 3 different phases where the students completed multiple challenges on the computer, coding a robot to maneuver and gather as many points as possible. As Steven and Giovanni were competing the other students toured the NJIT Maker Space and listened to presentations from speakers involved with the NJIT Technology and Computer Science Department. At the end of the day, the students attended the closing ceremonies where the winners were announced. Winslow Middle achieved 4th place out of the 39 schools that participated! We are excited and extremely proud of what our students were able to achieve as they competed against other schools throughout New Jersey.
