(Grade 7 - Year 1)

Students in grade 7 Graphic Design are introduced to Graphic Design as a field of study, including the role of design and designers in today's society and across other fields of work.  Students are introduced to the principals of design and elements of art and use them in combining words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages.  Students will learn the design process and utilize it as a means towards creating effective designs and visual communication.  Students are also introduced to software that will allow them to digitally create designs.  Students use design software to create various projects design for print.  They will study page layout such as creating advertisements, digital illustration for drawing and logo creation, and photo editing and manipulation.  This project-based course incorporates real world design challenges and is based on the art standards with technology standards and 21st century life and career standards heavily incorporated.

Graphic Design II 

(Grade 8 - Year 2)

Students in grade 8 Graphic Design are further immersed in Graphic Design as a field of study.  Students evolve from creating two dimensional work designed for print to creating three dimensional works and motion graphics.  They will utilize 3D rendering software and a 3D printer to create designs, as well as learn animation and movie editing software to create moving graphics such as cartoon animations and title sequences.  They will analyze the differences and similarities in designing for print versus designing for screen content.  Students continue to utilize the design process, design software, the principles of design, and elements of art in combining words, symbols, and images to create visual representation of ideas and messages.  Students study semantics and design through various cultural and historical lenses.  This project-based course incorporates real world design challenges and is based on the art standards with technology standards and 21st century life and career standards heavily incorporated.
